As I was watching the highlights of the 2008 NFL Hall of Fame inductions I was struck by the lack of objectivity for criteria. It boggles my mind to think that it took Art Monk eight years to be enshrined. While I understand that enshrinement is an honor and not a right I cannot begin to understand the logic of the writers that left him off the ballot all of these years. Here was a man who at the time of his retirement held the league records for receptions and most games played with at least one reception. For a time he also held the single season mark for receptions in a time when running the football was in vogue.Let us not forget that football is a team sport and that three of the teams he played on in fact won the Super Bowl. So often in this current era of professional football we have become numb to the boorish me-first shenanagins of the current crop of high profile wide receivers, this man was also the epitome of selflessness and class. I applaud Art Monk for taking the high road on the elapsed time to his enshrinement. I will not do the same. This archaic process needs to be updated so that the injustices faced by Art Monk AND Emmitt Thomas will not be repeated.
Hail to the Redskins !!!!
